Slip ons
Going to make a purchase for my new Dyna. My question if I go with slip-ons will I need a Power Commander? if I go without what should I expect. Thanks for your help. Tom

No tuner needed with just slip-ons. If you go with "loud" pipes, know that those pipes have very little backpressure and will only really give you a little HP boost at the top end, but you will lose low end torque.
I have V&H Straightshots with their quiet baffle installed. I like them, good "Harley" sound, but quieter and deeper than with the standard straightshot baffle, which was just too much. |
You wont need the power commander unless you change your air breather setup, or if you add pipes with the air breather. Speaking of slip-ons and not to hijack your thread, Ive got a set of cycle shacks for a fat bob for sale.

I have cycle shacks, and love them. Cost like 130 new. I bought them 1.5 yrs ago as a temp before I purchase a complete exhaust. Still have not replaced them! Cant beat it, and sounds great. I did not do any downloads or anything. But I do still have a stock air cleaner.

you dont need any kind of fuel management with slip ons....even if you add an air cleaner all you really need is the stage 1 flash from the dealer (you technicaly dont even need that as the newer FI bikes will adjust to small upgrades like this)

Cycle Shack slip-ons here too. I have the stock air cleaner and didnt do any programming. Bike sounds and runs great.
I'll program it when I move to a full exhaust and heavy breather. |
I have an 07 SG and I just put on V&H straight shots and a stage 1 air kit on it, got the stage 1 down load from the dealer and I'm happy as hell. Nice noise and noticably quicker. I think I saved a good amt of scratch on the download vs a fuel-pac.

worst that will happen is a little popping on decel

I have Rush 2.0 and think they sound really good. Pop rarely on the decel but only when I was really on the throttle.
