Does HD offer custom color paint for DIYers?
My bike is "Dragon Fly Green". It's an 06' custom color, do you guys know if HD sells cans of it or is it a actual custom paint job that is layered on? It's got flake in it so I'm thinking it cant come from a can. I dont know squat about paint.
I want to paint my battery box to match my tins and I'm not so sure a paint shop would be able to match the color..... |
Talk to HD they like to keep thier paint all secret like.
They will sell you the paint. On the other hand if you take your bike to a paint supply house they MAY be able to match it for you . Nowadays they can scan it with this optical tool and spit out a formula. |
Hi Harley does offer rattle can paint, but I dought unless they still offer the color on a current bike that they would have it being 3 years old.
Check out http://www.colorrite.com/ if any one has it they will. I have used there product for the exact same thing on several bikes, and have had good sucess with them. Sam |
The paint shop that has my rear fender right now mixes factory Harley paint. His computer system is full of paint codes and formulas.....probably doesn't help you much though.

Getting a "custom" color paint from Harley is like going to a chicken coop to collect chicken teeth.

A friend of mine just bought a 2006 Heritage a week ago with the same paint job it's an awesome paint that changes from green to blue depending on which way the light hits it. From what he was told the paint is patented by dupont and is the same type of color changing paint that Jeff Gordon had on his race car at bristol a few years back if anyone remembers. Anyway you'll probably have to get your HD dealer to send what you want painted to the MOCO to have it painted.
