Default Any driver's backrest options for Sundowner seat?

I have the HD Sundowner seat on my 05 Superglide, and I really like the seat but I would like to add a driver's backrest. Are there any options to do that, or do I have to drop a small fortune on a new seat? I have some bagger friends that both have driver's backrests that look like they can be used with any seat.

If I do have to buy a new seat with backrest, what's the cheapest option?

I'd hate to get rid of the Sundowner though as I do find it quite comfy but I'd like some back support.

Hey Mzbuckeye,
I added a driver's backrest to my 04 Sportster. I can send a pic if you like. I have since parted with the Sporty and bought a 97 Super Glide. I bought a seat off Ebay that has the backrest post already inserted. I really liked the driver's backrest. My email is tcs59@yahoo.com if you want a pic.

I bought a Protac for my SO's Softail, but went another direction.
I decided to experiment with it, turned the brackets upside down put them on my Dyna.
I also added set screws so it couldnt be easily stolen or slide up or down.
Pic's in my Gallery.

Ah ha, just what I was looking for, it appears they make a driver's backrest specifically for a 2005 Dyna. I just sent them an email. It's not the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but I'd probably only use it for long trips. How expensive was it?

Thanks for the link.

Consider a Biker's Friend Saddle Roll. It's GREAT! Installs in seconds and can be moved behind the sissy bar when riding two up. They come in various sizes. I bought the large. Comes with two lumbar pads. It holds lots of crap, too. It's the best accessory I've purchased.

I heard back from Protac, the price is now $130 with $10-12 shipping. If I can confirm that it will work with my saddlebags, I'll be ordering tomorrow.

Cool. Can you get it without the chrome buttons on the sides? Looking closely at the way yours is installed, if the one made for the Dyna installs the same way I'm sure I can make it work with my saddlebags.

Do those brackets stay on the bike, and the backrest slides into them?

Thanks again for the link, that's exactly what I had in mind.

Go on over to Malwart and by a sleeping bag that comes in one of those black nylon cinch sacks. Bugee it onto the back seat. Works great. I like having a backrest but no way am I paying 4 or 500 bucks for a seat that has one. Too frugal I geuss.
