While riding home yesterday from a mountain trip in North Carolina, I ran into a heavy rain just north of Atlanta. In the middle of Atlanta on I-20 my Dyna started cutting out like it was running out of gas except it wasn't out of gas....I switched it to reserve immediately just in case but....no better. Then my engine died and luckily I coasted to the side of the road without getting killed. I tried to restart with no luck. I then pulled out the choke and tried it again. I could smell gas so I knew it was getting fuel, but still no start. I let it sit for about twenty-five minutes and tried it again and it started up. I rode it for about 15 miles with it running rough and then it worked itself out and ran smoothly. I rode another 100 miles or so with no other problems. Anybody else had these type problems or any ideas on what caused it?
This Saturday I hit some rain and had to ride in it for a couple of hours and my bike started bogging down when I tried to go faster. It never died on me though. It cleared up after it stopped raining. I guess either rain got in the air cleaner or something electrical didn't like the dampness.
Sounds to me like water in your intake. What kind of air cleaner and cover do you have? I have a Screamin Eagle filter with the classic round cover and have never had trouble in the rain. And I ride in tons of rain up here in Seattle.
What year and model dyna you on? You mentioned a choke, so you've obviously got a carbed bike...
I just did this 2 SATs ago. The news said it wasn't going to rain and low and behold it rained and it poured. I didn't have any problems at all. I've rode the bike since and everything works fine. I have a stock intake, so it may come down to what a/c you're running.
Right now my brand new pcV caused mine to die after the first time i washed it. So I call fuel moto and what do they say "can you take the unit off the bike and see if if it runs again please?" Well it's fine now with the pc off whata load of crap it taks half an hour to get it on there another to take it off, what if I was 200 miles from home --just pull over and remove the unit in the rain next time! I would seriously like to remove it and get my money back! Don't looka ny further than water being your problem ,johnzlee!
