wire extensions needed?
Hi all
Im going to put on my new apes next weekend...I have stock street bob mini apes now and im going up to 14 inch w/ a 2 inch riser. i am going to run wired internally......will i need to extend wires? If so they have a 4 inch and an 8 inch kit...will 4 be enough or should i get 8 to be safe...also will i need a longer clutch cable? if so how long? While im asking, how about brake line? I know this has been covered many times but im sure there has to be someone that did the exact thing im doing and i would like to go into it fully prepared...thanks for any info

So, doesn't the street bob have the risers built into the top triple tree clamp? If so, you'll need a different top clamp.
Anyway, 2" risers, 14" bars....so maybe 5-6 inches taller than stock? When I put my fat mini apes on and wired internally, I had to add 8" of wire to get the connectors securely back in the backbone.
You'll need all new cables (clutch, throttle, idle) and brake line. I would start at a minimum of +4 over stock, and probably go +6

on my 06, i did a 14 in bars and 2.5 rise... i was able to use all stock cables, just had to re route my clutch cable, i did my internal wiring but i just soldered in extensions, if i recall i think i cut 7in strips when i was prepping for it, i would get the 8 in... also visit cable organizer. com for some nice wire covering to cover all that wire up after you feed it through. let me know if you ahve any ?s i have done this MANY times! and am actually doing it tonight on my girls bike

! besides even with the solid top tree Loner can always just make up some extensions real fast

you can make the stock ones work, like joe said. but +6 will get you there on cables. 8" wire extensions would be ideal also. im going to do the same install once i round up some dough. 14" black drag specialties, motion pro cables, novello 8" wire ext. (all for like 350) and still working on the brake line, but i might just try and make my stock one work, wont have to bleed brake that way!!! i also was able to build the bars and cables for less than what HC3 wanted for the same setup, using chicago hd... you get discount on on harley, drag, and kury parts!!!

Hence my question to him since he's riding an '08 
But it appears he's not using the stock upper tree. But at a minimum 8" wire extensions. Just get some same gauge wire and cut and splice your own. No biggee
