I had previously posted that I was looking to trade in my sportster. I was looking at the FXD, FXDC, and FXDB. I'm really drawn to the SB (vivid black) and it turns out 2 dealers in my area both have one 2009 left. One with the black rims and the other with the anodized aluminum rims. I'm leaning toward the aluminum but the black wouldn't be a deal breaker.
Of course, I'm hoping one of them will be willing to deal on the 2009 model and at least put on some forward controls.
One thing I did notice - I thought my sportster with SE street performance pipe sounded better than the Bob with the stock pipes. Oh well, that will be first on the list on mods.
So, hopefully next weekend I'll be ready to pull the trigger.
I'm just looking for any last words of wisdom - ?????
I'm in the same boat you're in.....or bike, for that matter.
I've been looking at the FXD, FXDC, & FXDB for some time now. I'm leaning towards the FXDB. As yoseppi said, the grey casing on the 09 is not as nice as the all black of the 10's. Although, I think it works if you can find a 09 with a Pewter Denim paint.
And yes, if you can get forwards thrown in on the deal while buying an 09, and maybe something else, it might be worth the savings. Heck, you could always mod it to be black later on (though that would cost $750'ish or more). Then again, maybe you don't care about the grey casing. In that case, go for it!
So, since you know how your Sportster sounded as stock and then with SE's.....what's the difference? Say, rate the sound and tone for both. I've always wondered how much louder and deeper the sound is from SE parts. I get that it won't be as much as the Cycle Shacks or V&H....but those are also not street legal too.
You'll be a MUCH better deal on a left over if money is a concern as well.
The black/grey cases are debatable. I think the chrome looks great on the grey cases and really dresses them up (check out tweakin's bike on here...it is a work of art!) I plan to do the chrome kit this winter on mine.
I wouldn't have the deal put on the forwards or the slip on's. You can do both yourself very easy and you'll save enough in labor to purchase the actual parts!
