cam bearing

Has anyone had to have their cam bearing replaced? My ride is a dwg 01. If so how did you find the problem?

RE: cam bearing

Assuming you are talking about the inner cam bearings, the stock bearings are INA bearings. The INA bearings are a caged bearing. The first time the cams come out I recommend changing the INA bearings to Torrington bearings. The Torrington bearing uses a full set of needle bearings and are not caged. In '99 and early '00 there were problems with outer cam bearings and the design was changed. Since you mentioned yours is an 01, you shouldn't have an issue with them. Depending on your mileage (if over 30K) you should check/replace your cam chain tensioners. That would be a good time to change out the inner bearings. Also if you are over 30K, good preventative maintenance, I would change the lifters while you are right there.

RE: cam bearing

Thanks for the info, I have 4600 miles, the sound coming from the cam cover sounds like a loose heat shield ,I have tightened the heat shields on mufflers. Bike runs good no lose of power,no other problems.
