Default Motorcyclemetal new build

I have a stock 05 Dyna w/ less than 5K miles that I use as a shop mule. I hate the POS because it handles horribly, is slower than baby diarrhea in an outhouse during an ice storm, and very uncomfortable to ride for long periods of time. Like a death sentence when going to my FXR. Either fix, sell or burn it

I decided to do something about it. I do not build bikes for looks. I build them to handle and go fast. I do like to keep them clean however.

The plan, a relatively inexpensive suspension and motor:
  1. I just bought a brand new 124 ci polished S&S that will be taken apart in the few days for a port & polish, balance job, new components, and hope to get the same for real true rear wheel 139 HP I got in my other one. I spent $7,900 on motor work alone.
  2. Trans: Polished Spike 6 speed
  3. Front forks:
    1. Ohlins cartridge Spanish Race series inside of a set of brand new shells.
    2. 320 mm SS/Aluminum rotors & side mount Nissin calipers w/adapters.
    3. Wheel: I do not have a clue yet?
    4. Flat track bars.
  4. Rear suspension. Ohlins #2~#3 13 1/4"/337 mm w/Stroke 4 3/32 / 104mm

You may not build them for looks, but those forks look good on there, and I think they go good with the stock wheels.

First of all that bike is bad *** but relatively inexpensive? compared to what a Ferrari? Still, that's a sweet ride.

Looks like that should loosen up those frozen baby turds. Or anyone elses, for that matter.

An 05 Dyna is a piece of **** because... ??

They seem like pretty cool bikes to me.

Hi Howard,

Fit a True-Track kit, from a fellow HDF sponsor, to tie down those rubber mounts! Will transform handling, especially with a 124 in it, Avon tyres.....

Nice work, Howard. Lots of engine mod threads but few folks push the handling envelope the way you do.

If you will ride it than ride my FXR than you will know why I made the statement I did. I have owned this bike (2005 Dyns) since 2006. I hate to ride it because:
  • I have something to compare it to.
  • I do not take my bagger very much unless requested by the "Other". I put a set of hard bags on my FXR. The bagger has my first set of C/F wheels, my inverted forks, the 124 S&S/139 HP dynoed, and a set of #3~#3 Ohlins. It is no pig for sure.
  • I prefer a short wheel base of the FXR/Dyna and no fairing (wind and smell thing).
  • My 05 Dyna is very slow and other than the wind in your face, provides my with zero excitement. It does beat a cage, hands down.
  • The ride beats you up and after 400 miles I want to get off the thing. Unacceptable! I am going to do something about it. This is a relatively low cost upgrade with the exception of the motor.
  • I can go on with this but you get my drift. This is my own opinion, If the bike was acceptable as is, I would not do anything to it.
Those are my reasons why I make that statement using my experience.

Relatively inexpensive, eh? LOL. Dang... howard, that thing looks awesome. Looks like it'd be a BLAST to ride! Good work man.
