Default New 2" Tank Lift On My FXDC

I think this 2" tank lift looks good on a Dyna, with the bags and windshield off and solo seat in place it looks ready for the strip. These bikes were made for some serious cruising

It looks great on your bike , 3 questions for ya , where and how much and do you think it effects the fuel gage indicator ?

Excuse my ignorance. But what is the reason for lifting the tank?

I just put one on my FXD that I got from Jackyl. It looks great but watch out for your vent hose when you lift the tank. Mine disconnected and I had to put a longer one on. My crossover hose also rubs on the frame, not with a lot of pressure or enough to need a longer one but I am a little worried about wear, so I just wrapped it with a piece of inner tube to provide some protection.

Fuel guage is definately effected by the 2" tank lift. My low fuel light goes on when tank is a little less than half full ! Other than that it is a good value DYI mod.

Haha - 2 questions I see every single time 1 of these threads pops up - what is the purpose? and what does it do to the fuel gauge?.

The technical purpose is to provide more airflow over top of the engine for better cooling. Jury is still out on just how much, if at all significant, that helps. The other advantages are that you can clean the top of the motor easier and better and it's a cheap and subtle change to the look of the bike's profile - sort of a chopped look.

Don't know about the newer bikes but my fuel gauge accuracy sucked from day 1 and the tank lift actually improved it for me. So, it does change the fuel gauge and I guess it could go either way depending on how accurate it was to begin with. My fuel gauge is my trip meter, not the needle, anyway.

On my FXD/WG I installed a 3" tank lift. I think the 2" would have been ok, but I had read some articles and the 3" was recommended for the Dynas. My fuel guage shows full when I top it off. I don't pay much attention to the fuel guage - use the trip odometer mostly. I'm sure the accuracy of the fuel guage was affected somewhat, but I fill up every 100 miles.
