I dont think anyone has done this yet.... Remember you are taking the best handling Harley - EVER. And downgrading the front suspension.

 

well yeha,,, but what I ment was to have the look of a fl on the front (wide tire, fork covers, big head light, etc...

 

There is a Social Group called FL-Dyna Interest Group on this forum. The whole purpose is fat fronts and such on a Dyna.

 

Measure your fork from axle to top of fork with the wheel off of the ground. Neast realize that a FL bagger fork measures 28 1/2". Now answer how you would you like your bike to have a bike with 27" fork (estimate) when you are sitting on your bike. Understand where I am going here. Just takes a little masking tape and a tape measure.

Good luck on that. Remember that different fork tubes are available and your triple trees are 39mm and a FL is 1 5/8" (incorrectly called 41mm). A FL triple tree has a raked (4* new or 4 1/2* pre 2009). A Softail is a much better choice and you can put dual calipers on them by switching the sliders to the FL type and installing on dust seal caps to finish it off.

The Softail is a steering stem behind the forks unlike the FL which will not fit onto your steering neck as the triple tree will hit the gas tank. A pre 1986 FL triple tree will work as I did it on a 1967 FL.

 

Agreed. Start with a Softail front end and grind the tabs to fit the FXR neck. By far the easiest way to do it. You could tin it up with the full headlight nacelle they sell for the Softails or just go with the Heritage/Fatboy style. You could probably do the whole conversion for a grand if you bought smart on ebay. I don't think it would look good at all by the way. Totally wrong chassis for a giant chromed out front end, but what the heck... if we all wanted the same thing we would have one boring forum.

 

OK, wrong title... it should be ¨FXR with fl style front with the covers and big light¨ jeje. BTW the bike allready has a wide glide 41mm front.

 

I don't have a pic of it, but it has been done before. Back in the early-mid 90s one of the locals did it with Shovelhead era front end, full fenders and 16in front wheel. He didn't like the way it handled. FLH front end was couple of inches shorter than FXR and 16in wheel/tire is smaller in diam than a 19. He ended up extending the forks and lacing up a 19in rim. Looked pretty cool. Last I seen that bike it had short full chrome shocks on it, hinged rear fender with early (pre '73) tail light and prob 4in over FL front end with nacelle, cow bells, full front fender and really fat 19x4 tire.

 

Than your answer is easy. Either weld on 4 mounts to install a early model (pre- 1986) nacelle or purchase all parts including the triple trees. I have installed a complete new style forks with new style FL (2000 ~ current) wheel onto a 1967 FL using OEM 1967 triple trees. Of course your forks and wheel should work just fine if in fact you have a 41mm fork tubes. As you can see you must use the fork covers AKA "Beer Cans" because the FL does not have dust covers (has dust seals).
