My Custom Fatbob Headlight Install With Pics
UPDATED: Night Video At Bottom.
Hey Guys,
I was thinking a few of the members might be interested in seeing the following pics of my custom headlight install.
I got the bike in October, but was really dissatisfied with the headlight the dealer put on. Instead of the two, side-by-side headlight mount, he replaced it with a traditional 5" Fatbob headlight.
Not sure if all stock HD lights are awful, but this along with my '07 Sporty headlight were basically useless to me on dark roads. I might as well have held up a candle.
I just don't have great night vision, so I figured to do something about it.
It was a long process. I first researched Sylvania bulb and PIAA direct-bulb replacements, which would have worked fine. But, in the end, I decided to do something completely custom in a 7" bucket that would give me way more light. As I'm used to xenons on our cars/SUVs, I explored this route.
After speaking with lighting expert Daniel Stern, at danielsternlighting.com, I decided on an XSighting 7" self-contained xenon headlamp mated to a flame-embossed Adjure bullet bucket.
I had some initial questions regarding the install, but Dave over at XSighting was awesome and very helpful.
I searched around for the best pricing and this light and bucket cost me a grand total of around $650. IMHO, it was completely worth it. It has low and high beams and lights up the road as well as my wife's SUV equipped with xenons. For me it's perfect and I don't feel insecure about driving at night on dark NJ poorly paved roads with deer prancing around in dark corners anymore. As an added bonus, car/truck drivers hardly ever pull out in front of me anymore. I attribute this to the attention the much brighter light gets.
Took her out in the Winter Wonderland for a photo shoot. Without further ado, here are the pics:
For perspective in the street portion, the nearest cars to the left and right are approximately 25-30+ yards away.
