Sears red jack modification
I'm not sure if anyone has thought of this but I came up with a solution to a problem that a lot of us have using the Sears red jack to lift our Dynas.
I certainly can't afford to spend $400 or so on a J&S or Pitbull that is built wide enough so the h-d lift adapters aren't necessary. This technically falls within the 'Under $50' thread and I may post it there also but for now...here it is for your viewing pleasure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8lanUaFQNE Parts / Tools needed: (Added 4/9/2011) 4 - 1/2" x 6" bolts 8 - 1/2" ID fender washers (1 between bolt head and lift pad / 1 between nut and lift pad) 4 - 1/2" nylok nuts 4 - 1/2" ID x 1/2" long spacers *OPTIONAL* / Check clearance 1 - 1/2" metal drill bit 1 - Drill 1 - Hack saw / cut-off wheel / Saw-zall (power tool strongly recommended) 1 - 1/2" wrench (13mm is a good substitute) / or is that 9/16" (14mm as a substitute). My memory is getting worse by the day. 1 - Garbage can to throw away the Dyna Lift Adapters you bought from the MoCo. 1 - Cold beverage of your choice 1 - Good tunes on the radio I think that covers it. UPDATE Aug, 2011: Earthquake tested. Earthquake approved. Thanks to 8541hog for the impromptu (5.9 'quake in DC) research. |
Nice, smart thinking, what's the new height in clearance?

I didn't measure but it pretty much stays the same. If your bike is lowered you may still have a clearance issue.

I suppose you could re-drill the poles and maybe gain 1/4" clearance but your bike is lowered. Not much you can do about that.

Good thinking and nice job man, now enjoy the weekend.

I am going to the shop after I got off the computer. Thanks!

Oh great Vic, it's not enough I am in the midst of modding the bike, now you want me to mod my jack too....
Good idea, looks like I have a little project while I wait for my tins to come back. |
