Default Harley Fog Light Install

I have a 2007 FXD. How do I install the HD engine guard fog lights so they run all the time. The directions say to wire them to the low beams. I want the lights to work with both low and high beams.

to do that, all you have to do is attach the wire to a 12 v source, instead of to the low beam headlight.

+1, gman....

mkvineyard, take the 3d option from this post I sent in last year:

Here are some diagrams showing how the foglamp kit should be installed, according to H-D's mounting instructions (=DOT regulations). In this way the fog lights as well as the aux lights stay on only with lowbeam (spliced to the yellow wire). (I can send you the link to these instructions by P.M.)

If you want them to work with high beam, splice (6) to the highbeam wire (on my 2003FXD it's the white wire).

If you want them to work independently from high/low beam, splice (6) to the runing lights wire (see your manual for the color, on my 2003FXD it's the blue wire) or run the "unterminated wire" (6) in the wiring harness back to the + on the battery or the aux fuse in the fuse box.

Here's a wiring diagram on how to wire aux lights using a relay:

Signal current from switch (86 ==> 85) activates coil; coil activates internal relay switch (30 ==> 87)

30 = + from battery (requires mim 2.5 mm2 wire)

87 = + to lamps (requires mim 2,5 mm2 wire)

86 = + from switch or headlight wire (to activate relay)

85 = ground

Thanks for the info. My kit is being shipped. I will post pictures after the install.

My gf just added speakers and an ipod hookup to her Lowrider. She hated having the volume control switch on the right handlebar (small hands - couldn't reach with her thumb so she had to reach across with her left hand). Couldn't put it on the left side cause of the switch for the HD fog lamps the PO installed.

So last weekend we yanked the fog light switch and wired it directly into the yellow wire on the headlight. Now the fogs come on with the low beam when you turn the ignition key. They do go out when you switch to high beams but she's okay with that.

Much cleaner installation without the damn switch.

Great post, thanks! I had been wondering how to do this for awhile now but hadn't yet gotten around to searching out the info or obtaining a solution via "experimentation" (the latter probably resulting in a lot of blown fuses and possible electrical system damage).

When I installed my driving lights I spliced them into the blue wire going to the one of the turn signals. They stay on all the time.

it's illegal in most (if not all) states to have fogs on when your high beams are on, that's why it says to wire directly to the low beam. this applies to all vehicles - not just bikes.

buddy of mine got a ticket last year ......
