Wow...that could have been so much worse. What if you were just getting ready to mount and leave for the day. I'd hate to think.
How did it run like crap but smooth? lol
I had a close acquiantance (r.i.p mike) who ignored his diabetes. One day while driving, he had a seizure. He hit ~7 parked cars, including flipping his vehicle on to the top of one. He survived but was confined to a 24/7 hospital care. He passed away after 3yrs of that.
the motor ran like crap, but the wheels turned smooth, meaning i think the wheels and forks were ok, but i think the exhaust might be kinked and i have a leak and losing compression or something else was wrong.
I would think you can do most of the work yourself. My insurance company pays quickly after getting a quote.
if you replace the tank and exhaust, and even the front wheel and rim, and don't pay 80 to 100$ labor you can get it done more quickly and make some scratch.
Im planning on doing almost all the work myself. The tank however is my biggest worry. Wondering how much that will run? But like i told my wife who was planning on getting me new exhaust for my bday next month, she wont have to worry about that! So i can get the 2-1 setup i want. Which i still havent made up my mind on yet! The wife did offer to let me ride her Street Bob while the Glide is down, I think thats just so she can brag about having more miles on hers than mine! lol....I gotta try to look on the bright side of things, cause the knot is still in my stomach!
Good luck with insurance and repairs, that's usually a little painful as well.
I hope the other guy is ok too. Keep in mind that he didn't want to hit the building, or your bike, and he probably feels terrible....on top of having diabetes, and seizures.....and now higher insurance than ever. That is, if he was even supposed to be driving or has insurance.
Maybe you could rent a bike and let his insurance company know that you are doing so....that could speed things up, and you could cruise on a street glide for a couple weeks and enjoy the weather.
If not...have a few beers.......several times......at once......repeatedly
Glydiator im glad you brought that up. I hope nobody reading this has thought that i at anyway was mad at the guy who hit my bike. Im just worried about getting his insurance to cover it. There are 7,000 people where i work, and i actually knew him from passing. A great guy it seemed, worked here for almost 30 years. I am not blaming him at all. It was just a freak accident. He did escape injury, but is still in the hospital with the diabetes related issues. Im actually worried about him as well, because now it has came out that the night before he actually went to the hospital for the exact same thing. Hopefully they are able to help him out and episodes like this wont happen again. It was very lucky that he didnt hit and kill someone as he actually was on the sidewalk and doing circles in the middle of the road. It was a very bad situation all around, but it could have been so much worse!
I'm sorry honey. We'll get it fixed soon no matter what. And the offer still stands to let you ride mine. Your knees will be by your ears but at least you'll be riding!

Wow what luck.... Your question about the tank... when I had to check into it for my bike, for a stock color matched tank from harley it is over 1100 bucks....
