do catted bikes get a louder muffler?
was wondering that since the cat quiets the bike a little did harley go to a slightly louder muffler to keep the same sound?I was just thinking that if I remove the cat on my '11 fat bob will it be louder than my non catted '09 was????Im bored and my mind is wandering....................

Mine was very quiet with the stock mufflers on (2011 Fat Bob) and considering the catalytic acts like a baffle in the collector and dampens the sound quite a bit I would say the mufflers are not louder on newer bikes with the cat in the head pipe. I have since gone to cycle shack baffles in the stock mufflers and an older hear pipe with no cat and its quite a bit louder than it was with just the CS baffles. I would say if you remove the catalytic it will be the same as your 2009 with no cat and sound will depend on the mufflers and baffles within. If you weren't about 1500 miles away i'd say you could drop by and hear mine lol.

i put 11 cvo streetglide mufflers on my 01 EGC. the 11 has a cat in the crossover pipe, my bike has no cats.. they are not loud, but they are louder then any stock bike and sound great. i love the sound, i don't know if it is because they are off a cvo, or if the cat'ed mufflers are made louder to compensate??. it is worth trying a set of take offs
