Default Engine/Trans/Primary -- where do you buy your parts?

Hi guys I got a buddy with a '77 Sporty that needs a new 1st and 2nd gear. I soaked a post on the sporty forum for 4-5 hours but didn't get but a few views on the thread.

So -- in general -- where do you go for parts like this on line? Any good vendors?

Default Parts

Get the needed part numbers and try Zanotti...You can also try J&P and Dennis Kirk but I 'm pretty sure that Zanotti will be the cheapest.

Thanks -- I knew those names but wasn't sure if they only sold bolt on bling or if they dealt in engine parts and such. Thanks dude.

JP has a lot of older parts available. Good starting point at least.

Yeah one of the problems we're having is obtaining the part numbers... Ah, well... ****. I'll get this bastard to buy the right books for his bike yet...

Default Trans Parts

Demon Cycle has a breakdown of the trans but not with part numbers. You can try to call Zanotti (hard to get them on the phone) or send them an email. You can also go to your local dealer and have them look up the part numbers. Tell them it's for a project or something. Part numbers are not that hard to come up with if you really try. You might also try like Chicago HD long distance on the phone.

Bry, your bud should at least try to buy the parts manual. Makes searching for parts using part numbers so much easier.

This is from JP Cycles:

P/N: 630-514: 1st gear mainshaft, 27 tooth $83.99 (oem:35277-52a)

620-034: 2nd gear countershaft, 20tooth 83.99 (oem:35750-58a)

Not sure if that's what your bud needs but it's a start.

EDIT: if you have the 2010 jp catalog...turn to pg554. Has a break down of all the parts, etc for sporty.

THANKS GUYS! I'll check in to all your suggestions for sure.

Vic -- you're right he needs to buy parts manual... and a service manual... but he's the original owner, an old dirty biker bastard, and set in his ways . Maybe this issue will help change his mind.
