Hey brothers and sisters, just a quick note. I have a streetbob with no bags and no rain gear. well yesterday was a beautiful day so I decided to take the bike out. I was about 40 minutes from home at a bar with some friends. On the way home the skys just open up and before ya know it I was in the rain with no where really to pull over, the rain looked like it was going to be here for a while, so I said F%^k it and rode about 30 minutes to get back home. The rain was beating the **** out of my face, I was cursing all the way. When I got home I was soaked, when I took my boots off I had to empty the water from them. I'm sure you all have had simular expierences as well. Just wanted to share how a beautiful ride can turn into a nightmare. I made it home safe and I thank God for that. Whew! lol, I love to ride.
Ah yes! I certainly remember being that wet, and not that long ago! Windshield certainly helps, but not enough. A bunch of us headed to Little Sturgis in Kentucky a few years ago. Only made it 50 miles before it opened up. We had rain gear, but the storm never abated. We rode about 250 in the rain. Finally quit right before Paducah. Even with the gear, we were still wet.
Dont mind the rain, but havin to wash the bike afterwards aint no fun. I usually have a bandana wrapped around my handlebars that I can put on my face in case of the un-expected rain storm. It keeps the needle-like rain off your face, I have had to ride one handed sometimes to cover my face from the rain, it hurts 60-70 mph, whaa whaa.
At least your not a fair weather rider....LOL... Cleaning bites.... the Do-Rag is x-cellent for the rain, I keep one my bag wrap my tools up with it...
YEP, I have only had my new superglide about three weeks and i have ridden in four rainstorms already. Like they say, if you haven't ridden in the rain, you haven't ridden.
The wifey experienced her 1st long ride and rain storm a few weeks ago. Boy, was she impressed. To say it was a downpour would be an understatement. Literally hanging on at 10 mph, pulled under a overpass. Wife says in the most scared voice, "What do we do know?" I said, " When it let's up some, I wrap that 'danner around my face and we ride." We rode for 30 more miles. Damn good thing she digs me. [8D]
I used to go to work at 5 am and I looked up and there were stars....8 minutes into the ride it started pouring down rain on me and by the way, I was in a suit and tie....thewhole bit.... When I got to work 20 minutes later, I was soaked...took off myclothes down to my boxers and undershirt and worked in the conference room with the door shut all day until my suit dried out.... Needless to say, the suit was ruined, I don't like suits anyway....
Rain sux. But I live in Louisiana so what can I do! There is at least a 40% chance of rain everyday it seems. I bought a full face shield for my half helmet. Best thing I ever bought. Great for rain and it's tinted so its great in the sun also.
The main thing that worries me about the rain is all the damn cagers that completely forget how to drive as soon as it starts. I keep waiting for one to slide into me at a red light or something! At least the super glide doesn't seem to mind the wet much.
