Help with new hand grips
OK, I bought a new pair of hand grips for my 08 FXDC and I'm a little hesitant about doing the job myself. I bought them with the intention of doing the work but when I looked at the manual it really doesn't show/tell enough about replacing them so I got a little hesitant about doing it. So tell me everybody, how easy or hard is it to change them out. It seems as though all I have to do is loosen or remove the bolts holding everything together and then probably just take them off. Am I close or should I seek some professional help (mechanic not phsyc)? I'm not really afraid to do this, I guess I need a little confidence boost. What do you all think?

Easier than detailing the bike. Left one just slips off and new one in it's place. Right one takes a little bit of finagling with the throttle cables but just follow the manual. For the love of God don't drop on of the brass ferrules, impossible to find on the shop floor.

Its a easy job you just need to be careful with the brake not to break the switch and the ferrules are a pain your first time doing it.
Usually a few foul words the first time you do it and its a 10 min job the 2nd time you do it. |
It can be a bitch, but easy the 2nd time. Time=1 1/2 beers.

Pretty easy but like everyone else said careful with the brass ferrules.

Okay. remove the left grip and replace it...done. For the right you need to loosen your throttle and idle cables, put a piece of cardboard in between the brake lever and the switch housing, open up the switch housing. Pull the throttle and idle cables down through the bottom the switch housing, being careful not to lose the brass ferules. Slide the grip off (after removing the brass ferrule ends from the end of the grip of course). Put it back together backwards. It is easier than it sounds.

don't let that little c-clip thing pop off.
i spent 2 hours crawling on my patio looking for that f*cking thing only to give up and have it fall out of my sweatshirt when i walked inside. short of that, the whole thing shud take you 15 minutes. |
If your worried...thats OK..(been there)...replace the left one (easy) and go to the dealer for the right one (harder)...may cost you less and give you the confidence boost you will love....Billy..

Relatively easy. If you have problems, you can always post here for help. As others have said be careful with the right one.
