Default New rear tire, stick with Harley or look else where?

It's that time to change the rear tire on my 2007 Street Bob, I've been putting it off for sometime now. I got a quote from the local Harley shop at about $400. I haven't contacted any other shops yet but I was curious to see how many owner stick to Harley tires from Harley dealers or go to other non Harley repair shops.

Also I would to move up to a 180 rear tire, Are there any modifications needed for the jump in size?

Thanks in advance
Brad

Streetbrad,

The SE 180 from HD and the Pirelli Night dragon are the only options at this point if I am not mistaken. Also the SE 180 from HD is actually wider than the pirelli from others reports.

I personally have the SE 180 and am extremely satisfied with it, performance and it's look. Not really a mod but, Your dealer will want to add a wire tucking kit to the inside of your rear fender. I think it is a good idea to have it, others find it not necessary. I believe they tuck the wires away with another method, perhaps zip ties, not really sure. Others will chime in regarding this I am sure. I decided to have it installed for peace of mind.

Good luck,

Cheers,

Tom

Metzler ME880 is my tire of choice. I order them online and take the wheels and tires to the shop and have them changed.

$400 for a new rear tire?!? That come with dinner and a movie first?

Local stealer wanted almost $300 for stock rear installed. Found one brand new at a swap meet for $120 and paid $40 for mount and balance. A little leg work can save you some bucks.

I just got 2 prices from indy shops for the dunlop rear, mounted & balanced. 1st was over 300 and 2nd was 212. I think 400 is outrageous I almost laughed at the 1st quote after I seen the tire online for under 150.

I have an 07 Bob also and I went with the SE 180. Fixing to change out to my second one. Get it from Zanatti's. No shipping and pretty cheap. Performance is great but life is not. The first one right now is at 6000 and will need a change in the next 500 miles.

I went with Metzeler ME880's front and rear, bought online from Motorcycle Superstore with new tubes for just over $300. I change my own.
