Custom Taildragger Fender.
I purchased a 180 degree Milwaukee Iron rear fender and have modded it to fit my WideBob. My question is do you think it would look alright with the bottom like it is or should a trim the bottom so that it is parallel with the ground. The fender originally started out as a 11.5" blank.
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g.../newfender.jpg I then masked off the 3 inches that needed to be removed from the center to make it 8.5 inches. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...eli/marked.jpg I then cut the 3 inches out and welded the two halves back together which gave me 8.5 inches. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...eli/welded.jpg Then I smoothed out all of the welds. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...i/smoothed.jpg Then dry fitted it to my bike. I can't decide should I leave the bottom like it is or trim it parallel to the ground. Since this pic the fender has actually been cleaned up a lot around the wheel opening so that it actually looks like a fender now. I still need to add some to the front so that it follows the wheel around to the swingarm. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...eli/DryFit.jpg |
Nice Home Brew!!! I think that you should just round off the inner bottom sharp 90* edge and call it a day. You can always cut more off later if you really wanted to. It looks great

Thanks, that's kind of what I was leaning toward.

I managed to get a little more work done on the fender this afternoon. I used the front from the stock fender and welded it to the new fender. An observation I made while doing all of this is how cheap and flimsy the stock fender is compared to the new Milwaukee iron fender which is about 11 gauge.

Nice work. I think it would look better cut parallel to the ground. Seems to wrap too far around for my taste. JMO

I am going to mount it on the bike in primer and study it for a couple of days before I lay the color down. I will probably end up trimming it parallel to the ground before it is all said and done.

I think you should leave it, different from the rest....

I'm thinkin' that's going to look real nice when it's done.
