Default Dyna 96 cu in top end noise

My hearing is kind of bad, but sometimes I hear a lot of clatter from the top end of my dyna when I am in a reasonably low enough gear for the speed I am travelling. For example, shouldn't I be able to run at 55 mph in 6th without hearing the top end? Is this a common observation, or is there something wrong with my engine. I only have 5200 miles on it and would hate to wreck it. What are the normal speed ranges for each gear in a six speed with a 96 cu in?

Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

you probably should not be in 6th at 55 mph...you are lugging the engine and it may be part of your problem...try 55 mph in 5th gear.

I never shift into 6th until about 65 or so..... Some of the newer engines have loud valve trains. Synthetic oil "can" make the noise more apparent for some reason.

+1 on the 55mph being waaay too low. Even with the 30t kit, you are lugging the engine.

As for the loud valvetrain and hearing problems, I find that if you ride with ear plugs, it helps with both problems...lol

I use 5th gear until 62-65 mph then go to 6th. 3rd gear till 40mph, 4th gear till 50 or so, you hear it when its ready to change, but you can always hear some top end noise, mine gets louder when i'm right about at the shift point, like 39 mph on 3rd gear it makes a little noise, but nothing major.

No. 6th gear @ 55mph is too low. You're lugging your motor. You should hit 6th gear 65mph+.

Denifitely too low rpm's for 6th gear. 65 to 70 for me into 6th and then only if I'm in the clear out on the road.
