Default S&S easy start 583 cam??

Hey I'm thinking of getting a cam for my 2009 Fat Bob but not sure whats good. I have been looking into the S&S easy start 583 but any input would be great. I have done V&H short shots and a SE heavy breather intake. I want a mid range cam with most power and torq increases in the lower rpm range. Thanks

Default Cams

I have S&S 585's and they are an upper RPM cam. Comes on about 4000 and climbs like crazy to 6500. It's got pretty good grunt (torque) but it is higher up in the RPM range. I know H-D 211's have good low end torque and lots of guys on here love the Woods cams. I'm sure they will speak up about YOUR decision.

I've been waiting for real world feedback on those since they were introduced. Since I dont know anyone thats installed them, I refuse to be a guinea pig.

The 583 is designed for 1500 to 5000 rpm, the 585 is a different grind according to S&S web> think I will go with these in my 106 build on the 09 Dyna. I keep eating starters on the 09 Ultra with the HQ 107, on my 3rd in 35k miles.

Question is who has the best price on these cams?

I've got a set sitting in the box waiting for my labor day weekend teardown/rebuild. I won't be able to tell you how they perform since I'll be doing a slew of upgrades to include a 106 kit, ported heads, power pulley, side shots, and now a t-max kit that I just bought.

I've looked at the dyno charts on S&S and they seem pretty nice. Definitely a midrange cam.

Huey, I ended up going with the 570 ES aster talking to GMR, says the head work will be better match in the fla heat. I also ordered the bub 2-1 ripe today for $370. I also have the TMAT but am thinking about switching to tts or sert, what map do you plan to run in this build of yours? What part of England you in, will be visiting tomorrow. In Brussels tonight.

Are you changing the whole starter or just the starter clutch. Eventually the teeth on the clutch basket will shear, even if you have compression releases. This is why after forty years of riding I say "stock is best".

I thought the 'Easy Start' S & S cams were more expensive ... as I understand from the OP he doesn't have a high compression build ....

Masterblaster's build has increased compression over stock ... therefore, it would make sense for him to use the easystart cams ....

MB, I'm not looking for monster power. I'm just looking for something to be a bit better than stock and will push me into the 10's in the 1/4 mile.

I have a SEST and I've done a custom tune over the past couple of months. The TMax, it's got autotune, so I don't have to worry too much.
