Every situation is different, That said, I always aim my bike right at the left hand cager. That way two things happen,one he has a better opportunity to see you and freeze himself (as it were). Two, You have an opportunity to actually avoid him by going behind him.if he commits himself to turning. Or as he is frozen, to safely pass by. This is a valueable technique imo.

As you say, every situation is different. Thats good technique on a 2 lane but asking for more trouble IMO on a 4 lane which is what is prevalent at most intersections.
