3rd New Motor Mount...and a Loaner Bike!

OK, so for those of you who don't know or remember, when I bought my '10 WG in April it came with the optional ripped motor mount right out of the crate w/ 4 miles on it. Dealer fixed it.

Then at 5014 miles, it needed another. Dealer fixed it.

Now, 300 miles later, it's in the dealer for ANOTHER MOTOR MOUNT!!!

What's up with that? Anyone else here ever have or hear of this problem?

This time at least, I get a loaner bike because they are keeping mine overnight......said the motor company wants them to try something other than throwing a new mount in....what that is, we shall see but it makes sense, since that obviously isn't working!!

They gave me this:

Gotta tell you, as much as I love my WG, this Road Glide is NICE!!! It's a 2011 with the 103" motor.....I could definately get used to cruise control and a stereo! I'd have to get the Road Glide Custom though....I know everyone wants a StreetGlide, but that's just it. Everyone has one already, and I like the RG Custom.

Anyway, not like I'm gonna trade mine....unless I keep having issues, then they will have to maybe take the dam thing back anyway!

That sucks, put some miles on that loaner bike while you have it.

Nice...do you think the dealer's trying to send you a subliminal message (physically) w/the RG??? ;)

I'm guessing after three motor mounts they're looking for other areas causing the huge stress & snapping mounts. Hope they get it right this time. Enjoy the RG in the meantime.

Road Glide

If you take all the touring gear off the RG Ultra (tour pack-lowers-different seat-lower w/s, it is a great looking bike. I'd love to have one even as a loaner.

I just got mine back from the dealer. it had sprung a leak from the inner primary. they had to replace the inner primary cover because it had a void in the casing and was leaking. they gave me a 2003 electra glide, it was cool with the fairing and radio. I have been looking at the streetglides but this sealed the deal for me I'll keep my WG. screw that grandpa bike "for now at least".

Could you tell just by looking at the mount that it was bad?...Thanks.

That's my next bike, the RG custom that is. I agree about everyone wanting the Street Glide. I like the looks of the Street Glide but think the RG handles much better . How do you like the 103 in the loaner?

I am baffled at all these motor mount failures. Being a victim of a trashed rear mount, I feel the frustration. Please.....no PLEASE post up whatever they come back with as the "fix". Some of us are dying to know.

OK....first the "supposed" fix.....which I have to say I'm not all that satisfied will fix it.

When the mechanic looked at it yesterday he said the mount was split. Today they said there was nothing wrong with the mount, but that it was rubbing against the frame at it's top-most part. What Harley told them to do was "file off" .020" from the top of the mount so there was more clearance between the mount and the frame. I just rode the bike home and there is no more vibration, but they actually took it out, put a hand file on it and shaved it down to put it back in. Sounds half-assed to me, and not like a real fix. I told them if it happens again I'll be looking for a new bike......MD lemon law says 4 repairs that effect the safety or overall value of the vehicle (motorcycles included) within a period of 24 months or 18,000 miles would legally entitle me to a new vehicle. We'll see. I love my WG, but am not going to deal with this for the life of the bike! 3 times in one year is too much! That fix to me sounds like they threw some chewing gum on it to hole things together for a while......I don't like it.

As far as the RG, oh yeah I rode it. About 250 miles yesterday and today, lol. The 103" in stock form has decent tq. down low (keeping in mind the wieght difference between that and my WG), but nowhere near like my WG. Up top it's a dog. In 6th at 70-ish, you almost have to downshift TWICE to really get around someone. A set of cams, pipes, air intake and tuner would probably REALLY wake that motor up!

However, I have to say I was REALLY impressed with the handling! Back roads are a blast with that thing, and stability at high speeds (100) is unreal! Much better than StreetGlide's or Electra's I've ridden. You really have to watch your speed, because 80+ feels like nothing at all. That thing really wants to lean and hug sharp curves, and there's no Dyna wobble, so I felt a little more confident hitting curves faster than I usually do with my WG.

Getting back on my bike though, no I would not trade it on one. In another year or so though when I plan on getting a bagger, it will be a RG Custom! I really wanna get to a dealer and test ride one. The only thing I did not like about the loaner was that between not being lowered like the Custom and having a seat that's about 2 feet thick, it really sits too high for me. I think the thinner seat of the Custom and the inch or two it sits lower would make a HUGE difference.....plus the Custom just looks badass!

Here's 2 new gratuitous pics of my bike, too.......I started ordering the next round of parts for it, too.

-HD FatDrag bars in Black
-Progressive 430's, 11.5", black w/ chrome accents
-Metzler rear tire.....as you can see from the pics, the Dunlop has not lasted so well..
-PM Contrast Cut brake rotors & rear pully
-New "used" gas tank, so my custom paint project can start in another month or so!
