Default Headlight

Has anyone removed the metal deflector inside their headlight and does it make any difference?

I believe that is a heat sheild to prevent the lens from getting too hot.The reflector is what controls the pattern.A bike I had years ago had the sheild removed but it didn't increase the output any.Bulbs such as the sylvania silverstar H4ST will give you a whiter, brighter light though.

Yes they have, but you have to cut it. The reason being that the base of the that thing is the latch for the spring that holds the bulb in.

I haven't rode yet at night for a distant yet because of the winter, but I adjusted the beam where it seemed better. It's almost nice out so hopefully I'll be out on the road again. Sorry can't answer your question yet, but here a couple pics.

U must cut the base of the deflector as it is used to secure the bulb spring. Using masking tape to mark and measure the cut, below is the result.
