Default leak around crank sensor

It looks like I have a small leak where the crank sensor comes
thru the case , does anyone know if there is an o'ring on the sensor
or if you have to replace the complete sensor and do you have to
remove primary covers to replace it .

I really need to buy a manual

UPDATE :
After a second look it is leaking where the stator wire comes out of the
case , any fix for this other than replacing the stator

I had my crank position sensor go bad on me about six months ago ... it wasn't just the o-ring ... the plastic housing had broken up and about half of it was gone ... no way it would have held an o-ring in place with what was left of it ....

You shouldn't have to remove the primary ... there's a plug over on the right side of the motor, unplug it there and remove the one bolt holding it into the crankcase ... as I recall it costs somewhere between $50-$60 ....

Pretty easy fix, but don't let it go too long ... mine started spewing oil while I was on the freeway ... not a fun time ...!

You don't have to remove anything but the two screws that hold the sensor and pull it out.Check to see if the screws are loose first.

Also want to make sure the leak isn't actually out of the stator wire. My 2006 Street Bob started to seep oil out of there this summer. The fix is to replace the stator so until the leak gets worse (just a few periodic annoying drips now) I just wipe the bike down and wash it a little more often.

There is a fix, but it involves removing the stator and using a sealing compound like yamabond or Threebond 1194 and putting it around the plug, then pushing it back trough. Still alot of work so if its not a bad leak i wouldnt worry about it.

FYI, dont try to silicone the outside because it wont stop the leak and will make it look ugly as H**L.

This may not be the technically best way to do things but, I cleaned mine (stator wiring) good with carb spray, cleaned good, then coated the area with black silicone. Leak fixed, for the price of a tube of silicone. After you get the silicone on it, spit on your finger and smooth everything out so it won't look like caca. 103k and still no leak. I did it about 60k

What's a good cleaner to use that won't stain or mess up
the black cases
