Question about Fat Bob ape hanger wiring...
I apologize to the member whose bike this is for using it in my thread, but I came across this pic and I am in love with these bars:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...t/untitled.jpg My question is, do I need to buy new internal wiring or can I lengthen my existing wiring? I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, as I've been in the electronics field for 10 years. I'd rather just replace them, if I can do so for a decent price. Also, where can I find a good price on the clutch, brake, and throttle cables that I'll need. Can anyone with experience on the subject help me out with some info on this? Thanks a bunch for reading :icon_razz: |
There are kits out there to extend existing wiring.... Not hard to do if you are inclined to.

i do bars all the time and i have never bought a kit, just get some wire, cut it to the added length you need, then stagger your solders so that it will pull though a bit easier, be sure you shrink wrap everything, and the wrap the bars... if you do a bit of hunting i have done 2 write ups on wireing bars internally... if you can not track them down just let me know i am sure i can dig them up

BTW the cheapest and best place I've found to get heat shrink:

Awesome! Thanks for the info guys! How about the clutch, throttle, and brake cables?

all need replaced i think it is +6 for 14 inch apes if i am not mistaken...
Ice great link!!!! |
The most expensive part about that setup is the bars, if I am not mistaken they are custom from BR customs. I forget the guys name, very informative but I just couldn't chuck down that much cash for some bars:icon_neutral:

OK one more question:
I found a guy on ebay who's selling his slightly used OEM Street Bob Throttle/Idle, and Clutch cables. I'm sure the length will be fine, but will they be a direct swap for my FB, or do they use different cables? I know I'd still have to get a different brake cable because of the dual discs, but I might be able to save a few bucks by buying his stuff. Thanks a ton for all of your help guys. I'm dying to ride it, but I can't with it being winter here in NY and all, so I can at least work on it. |
Bill, from BR Custom is amazing. He definitly knows his stuff and will talk a mile a minute. I baught my bars through him and he walked me through measuring what I wanted over the phone. He is not cheap, but neither is his product.

P.S. You're bike is sweet man. I checked out your album and that is one of the best looking Bobs I've seen on here. |
