Excessive heat from exhaust gases can cause a motorcycle's shiny chrome exhaust pipes to quickly discolor and turn blue. Sounds like you could use a good Blue Job in the future.

Thanks, i have read they run lean but was hopping i could ride it a while before getting a tuner. I don't want damage it. I have been looking a photos but cant tell because the heat shield always covers the pipes up, or there black.
Jim
The front pipe gets heated by the exhaust gases and gets rapidly cooled by the on-coming air (whereas the rear pipe doesn't get cooled as quickly) The extreme temperature difference causes the chrome coating to deteriorate.
The engine will run hotter under leaner conditions. If you start doing performance mods. It would be a good idea to get some type of EFI Tuner to correct the air fuel mixture. The newer bikes run lean because of NEW EPA MOTORCYCLE EMISSION REGULATIONS.
You will not hurt anything. Ride it like you stole it!
