Front end swap (narrow to wide)

What's up everybody? I need some help from you guys once again.....lol i have a 1997 fxd superglide with a narrow glide front end on it. I would like to change it to a wide glide front end. I have the opportunity to purchase a whole wide glide setup from the bars to the wheel off of a 1999 wide glide. I was wondering if anybody knew if this would bolt up to my machine. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated . Thanks in advance.......and whatever you do don't let my wife find out.....lol just had my carb done and i said it was my last mod for a while....hahahahaha.....and she fell for it.....sucka!!!!

I just did mine 2 weeks ago and was an easy swap, it took 4 hours with a lunch break. It will change the stance of the bike, It raised the front end with the 21 inch wheel maybe an inch at most.See my Sig pic for the end result.

Thanks....do you know if i can use the stock wheel off of my fxd? i would like to keep the wheels matching and i just had them powdercoated last season.....i know they have adapters for the fender but not sure about the wheel. you said it wil change the stance....will it rake out the front?

Yes you can use your stock wheel, but will need to get a spacer kit for it, those are sold at most indy stores, My front end is from a 2000 Night Train and since my bike is a 2002 everything was good for me such as the brake caliper.Since this is from a softail there is only one mod you will need to do and will take all of 5 minutes with a cutting wheel. I have attched pictures of what i did to the lower tree, the reason for this is the softail lower trees have these stoppers built into the side, these are what you will need to cut off so these don't hit your frame and reduce turning radius.to my surprise my fork lock still worked fine.

As for stance i think it added 1.5 degrees of rack from the trees.

I finally got to take it out for a test ride, managed to get it up to 50mph and no issues whatever.

The reason that tree was cut was to remove the lock tab that would have wrapped around behind the neck on an older model. That tree was from an older bike that didnt have an internal lock. The trees are exactly the same between the older ones and newer ones, Harley just removed the tab and some of the metal on the newer ones.

This is what it looked like

it dosen't weaken the lower tree if you cut it?

After I made my cuts, I washed my 03WG the next day and noticed it looked exactly the same as the one I cut up the day before. HD used the same tree but modified it for the newer bikes.
