Dyna generations? Parts interchangability?
I'm interested to learn more about the Dyna platform and what the generational changes are… and what years swap parts, etc.
For example, when talking cars, '67 - '69 Camaros share the same platform and the parts are basically interchangeable. What's the deal with the Dyna family, or where can I look to learn more? Thanks! |
I can get you close but probably not 100% correct. 92-98 are the Evo's (FXR's in there too but I don't know squat about those) 99-05 Twin-cams (some changes in there I believe) 06-present TC's w/new frame and 6 speeds. 06 had the 88" and 07 up 96, all 06 and newer were injected. It's a start and I'm sure others will have more info and ammendments to what I have listed.

Thanks man, this is exactly what I'm asking. Good info, I appreciate it!

Check part numbers. The first 5 numbers are the part, the 2 after the dash are the first year the part was introduced, if it has a letter after it the part has been updated since intro.

Most of the stuff is interchangeable, much even between models. A lot of it can be adapted with enough ingenuity. Just put a wideglide frontend on my Street Bob. Used a 16" wheel off a Heritage and a fender off a Fat Bob. The catalog will tell you one I can't use a Heritage wheel. With the right spacer kit, it works fine. Someone posted on another thread the FB didn't have the option of putting on mid controls. Should be the same frame, just the pipes it runs. The parts catalog does list different PNs for the frames. For the '08 year models, the FXD, FXDL, C and B frames date back to '06 and are all the same. FXDWG has a different frame, as the rake is 34 deg instead of 29 deg. The FXDF came out in '08 and has it's own PN. It runs a 16" tire and I believe it's a hair wider. Common parts, like the valve stem assy date back to '83. Newer front axles are 25mm. Previous years were 1" and before that were 3/4". A lot of this you'll learn when you start tearing into yours. Have fun!

Oh...49mm forks came out in '08.

Excellent info so far! Keep it coming!

Speaking of interchangeable parts...
8541Hog, What is that rear fender on your 05' WG ? It looks badass and I was wondering if it would fit on a 2011 Superglide |
