Default 2001 FXDXT rear shock replacement problem, looking for help

Hi folks, I'm from china and this is my first time to post thread on this forum. Please give us a hand if you got time.

My friend owns a 2001 FXDXT and recently his bike rear shock leaking oil and he is planning to replace them. He found a pair of 2010 DYNA super glide stock shock for replacement.

The problem is 01 FXDXT rear shock screw doesn't fit the 10 super glide stock shock. Should he order the full kit for 10 stock shock? (shown on the pix)

Thank you for you help

If it was mine i would have the fxdx shocks serviced by a suspension tech. the fxdx shocks are a better shock with more adjustability than the superglide shock. as for the bolt size you can not run a smaller bolt as it will be to loose in both the shock and swing arm. nor should you drill out any hole to ofit a larger bolt. im not sure which one is larger the 01 or 10?

going from an fxdx or fxdxt shock to a stock fxd shock is a downgrade at best. Either go progressives or really step up and go Works or Ohlins. As far as the mounting hardware goes you are gonna have to wait till you decide on a shock and then trial fit the hardware at that time. may take a few trips back and forth to a hardware store but it's worth it to get stuff that fits right and not have to drill out anything.

i just replaced stock FXDX shocks, and the problem is the mounting studs at the top and the lower shock bolts, The lower shock bolt needs to be longer and you could order those from Hd or get Grade 8 bolts, The top will require a new shock mount bolt as they are different on the FXDX, You would need to order the full install kit or order a stock FXD shock mount stud.

alright, thank you guys and I'm gonna tell my friend to order the full kit for replacement. Since HD didn't come to China for very long time, most HD owners don't have much experiences on the bike. Your advise will be great help for us. I do appreciate that.

Come to china if you have chance and lets ride before the forbbiden city ^_^
