Engine Noise Driving Me Crazy!!!
I have just about had it with the ticking/pinging coming from my engine. I notice it most when the engine is under load. I don't have a tach but I don't let it get too low in RPM's. For example there is a hill on the way to my house that I take in 5th gear. I roll on the throttle and the ticking is very loud. I have a 2010 WG with a PCV, Thunderheader, Stage 1 Intake and am running Amsoil. It sounds like the noise is coming from the front cylinder. It is very loud (I can hear it over my Thunderheader).
I did a search and from some of the threads I read through alot of people have said that synthetic will make the engine louder. I appreciate any help..... Thanks |
this is normal when you are too low an rpm for the load. just down shift and youy should be fine.

i would drop it down a gear on the hill.... but the top ends of twin cams are notoriously noisy, nature of the beast..... syn does make them a little louder, but works better ...mine ticks like a sweing machine, more when warmed up... always has..... its normal

I also use Amsoil 20w50 (in all 3 holes) with 8oz of this in the primary & trany... 20oz in the crankcase...
it works! http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...8/100_0045.jpg |
Just curious, what speed are you at in 5th when starting this hill?
Do you wear a helmet and/or ear plugs? I have noticed if I turn my head a little when not wearing earplugs the noise goes away, I think the wind magnifies the sound or makes it own sounds. I hear things when I wear a helmet that I don't hear when riding without. |
I don't even hear it these days (mostly.) The other day my son was riding with me and he made a comment and suddenly I could hear it to the point of it being annoying. It's back to normal now. I just hear the pipes.

20 0z of the lucas for me as well... i have heard the tick in mine goes away with the lucas... i thought i had a pushrod that came out of adjustment

Just curious, what speed are you at in 5th when starting this hill? I have been wanting to invest in a tachometer that way I can judge the rpm's better. To me the thunderheader makes it sound like you are at a higher RPM than you really are, just my opinion though. Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it. |

I would say 45-50 mph. I did just change from a helmet that covered my ears to a Voss half shell. I'm shure that's part of it but man it's alot of noise.
