rear fender issue

i bought a used fender on ebay in feb. i finally saved up to get my tins painted. Well i get a call today that the rear fender is a quarter inch to narrow. its 8.25 and the stock fenders are 8.50. i wish i would have known this before i had it painted. the fender looks identical to a stock fender. could there be some kind of motification? a skinnier tire maybe? and what does a 8.25'' fender fit on a dyna? the ebayer said it was 06 up.

My '09 FXDC should have the same fender width as yours; close as I can tell, it actually measures 8-3/8"). Are you certain you actually have a problem?

It's what the shop is telling me. Heading down there today with my old fender to compare. I just got ahold of the guy who sold me it and he said it came off an 09.
