The lip actually centers the pulley. The bearing sits at or below the pulley mounting surface.

bigdady...yeah, it will fit over it like it is. I was just wondering if it would work if not intact...I guess so if you can grind it off.

A good thing to do to make sure the bolts are all tight is to mark them and make sure the dots you mark them with stay in the same place. My buddy had this happen on an 03 Dyna too so it is not just the newer ones.

That may be, but I think you could agree that this problem is WAY more common on newer models. So common that I doubt its user error.

You should also know that on Joe Knapps bike we caught this in progress and got it into a gas station. One of the remaining bolts was still tight while the others were sheared off, one even slid out and caught on the swing arm and bent like a pretzel and fell on the ground. I honestly think the bolts are fracturing or shearing and not even coming loose.

pulley bolts i allways use a drop of red and a drop of blue locktite. my own stupid mixture but it works
