Crank it up!

Yesterday I was out in the garage geting ready to go for a ride with my wife and I decided to dig up my old shock wrench and try adding a few notches of preload to my rear shocks.I ride mostly twisty back roads and usually manage to scrape my pegs at least once every time I ride.So I got out my old wrench, made for a Suzuki so I had to modify it a little with a grinder with that done I added three notches of preload and took off.Right away I noticed the pegs felt higher, the riding position more upright and the suspension was more compliant.Out on the road the difference was nothing short of amazing I was able to easily keep up with my old back road burner, a highly modified SV650 with no drama at all.Normally my Bob has a tendancy to wallow during hard cornering and hard edged bumps felt like a swift kick to the tail bone. All solved with a few cranks of a cheap old shock wrench. Now I know this is the opposite direction most people are trying to go with thier Bob but it doesn't really look much taller and the trade off in handling is well worth it.I liked it so much I cranked it up to the last notch when I got home.My bob is slowly turning into a flat black FXDX.

RE: Crank it up!

I think my bike came out of the box with the shocks set at '2'. I immediately set that to 4. I prefer the stiffer ride, and it certainly helps with my wife on the bike.

Mine were set at 2 from the dealer.I set them to 1 dfor a while but it felt too mushy and not as responsive so I put them back to 2.May try and set them on 3 and see what she does..........

Mine were set at one when I got it.It felt like a rigid when I hit my first pot hole.I had been meaning to play with the adjustment as soon as I could find my shock wrench which I finally did and was completely amazed at the difference it made.

I don't understand why these things come set so low. I reset mine to 4 before I even left the dealer. I'm not a small guy (6' 215lb)...if I tried to ride on 1 or 2, there might as well be no suspension.
