Default $$ to cam my fatbob ?

About what should it run to have an Indy cam my Fatbob? I am thinking SE255s or Andrews 26s. Mike

How long is a piece of string?

Loads of variation out there. I paid £800 (about $US800 in real terms) for parts and labour at the dealers so I could keep the warranty with them. Depending on the Indie, I'd expect you to pay less than that.

The best place to answer your question is your indie. They'll maybe suggest a cam, tell you what further expenses they might encounter and do the work.

Listen, you can save yourself a lot of install labor by doing it yourself. It's not difficult at all. I'm no mechanic but I was able to do it using my service manual for reference and torque specs/seq.

If you can operate basic tools plus a torque wrench and read/comprehend a service manual, then you can do a cam swap. If I remember I outlined what specific parts you need (gaskets, etc) in a thread called "Cams".

My swap cost me about $750 including dyno tune. ~$500 parts including cams + $250 dyno-tune.

Hey SC-Longhair, for those dyno numbers, what else did you do beside wood cams and exhaust? Did you dyno tune the bike? I need some low end power, the 6 speed first gear seems to be tall, is there a work around?

Yes, I did dyno-tune my bike. Necessary to do, so figure that into the cost if you're planning an upgrade.
If you're interested:

As far as the gearing, a lot of people have done a tranny sprocket mod, from 34t to 31t. Andrews makes the sprocket. There is a large thread on it. Just search "31t" or something like that.

I didn't do anything else other than cam and exhaust. I should do the heads for maximum compliment to the cam. ~10:1 would be great. Haven't had the money to do it, so that part of the mod will wait.

That cam is ok. Again, several cam grinds that are popular in the late model dynas. Andrews 37, Andrews 54, Wood 6, Wood 408-44, and I'd also give the Wood 5 a look-see. Same as the 6, with higher lift.

I was going to add a +4 advance gear in lieu of doing the heads but that didn't work out either.

The first 10-15hp comes easy/cheap. Once you hit that, it becomes harder and more $$ to gain anything noticeable.
