Default 70mph + Broken Valve spring =

I was out riding on Sunday and about 90 miles from home the engine started making a loud tickning and lost all power. I pulled in the clutch and hit the kill switch.

I got it over to the side of the road and bumped the starter a couple times and it would backfire and thats about it. I pulled the pushrod covers and checked all the jamb nuts on them.....All tight.

Not having many tools on board, I called my wife and a good friend to come get me.

I spent 3 hours sitting on the side of the road in the sun (no shade around) I had a couple good friends with me, they went and got water and a burger for me and waited till the trailer got there. The rest of the group headed out shortly after I confirmed a trailer was on the way.

I got it home pulled the rocker box cover and didnt see anything. After doing a compression test, I found no pressure on the front cylinder. After looking closer, I found a broken valve spring.

I pulled the head off and found...NO DAMAGE! The valve had hit the piston, but just enough to knock the carbon off it. I'm going to replace the valve, spring and guide. I am also pulling the rear head and having those springs replaced just in case I got a bad set. While I am in there, I am going to pull the jugs and correct the deck height. Right now its at .014".

All and all it sucks that it happend, but glad the damage is minimal.

No need, gonna replace all of them. I wouldnt be able to trust any of the others since one failed. A new set is cheap peace of mind.

No they are aftermarket beehive springs. I think they were made by comp cams...My head guy put them in for me when he did the headwork.
