Hello, maybe someone here could please tell me why you need to move the rear wheel foward when mounting the passenger footpeg mounts on an 07 dyna super glide. For the life of me I just can't figure out why I just can't remove the belt guard and mount the left side mount.
I would really appreciate any help from the members. Thank you.
wow...i was just going to post about this....
currently setting up wifey's bob for 2-up riding[mainly so i dont have to put all that crap on my bike!]
got the seat [sundowner] got the passenger peg mounts[harley] ordered the "plug and play" backrest bracket[jb fabrication]
already put a windshield on [memphis shades "slim"] and am bidding on a set of highway peg mounts and pegs![god i love me some ebay!]
anyway, back to the question...the reason for this is just to get some slack in the belt so after you remove the belt guard, you can fit a ratchet[and socket] between the belt and the bolt
my fix for this was to use the torx socket and a ratcheting box-end wrench.
slipped the appropriate size wrench over the hexxed part of the torx and went to town!
10 minutes later i was putting on the pegs!
believe me....i was just as freaked out when i opened the intruction sheet to find i had to jack the bike up off the rear wheel and loosen the bolts, slide the wheel forward etc. all for some freaking pegmounts? yeah..i dont think so!
took me about 5 min.[or exactly 1 bowlful of a green leafy substance] of staring at the thing to realize what the deal was....and how to make it happen...and i'm not much of a wrench[although i'm learning with help from h.d.f]
here are a few pics to celebrate my victory!!
here's one more...b.t.w. the pegs themselves are some i bought off ebay for like $5
got 'em home and realized why they were so cheap...the chrome basically rubbed of in my hands!
so a lil sandpaper...and a lil powdercoat....viola!
I put the passenger pegs on 06 Street Bob, I didn't mess with wheel, just used the proper size L shaped wrench. Just took a lot of patience as could only tighten about 1/4 turn at a time. I also made sure I put locktight on bolts.
I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one to wonder about this. I read the instruction and said, "What?". I thought I was missing something important, for a minute, and then realized the instructions were "overly complicated".
I just did the same thing. I also used a ratchet with the torx on it. That way I didn't have to move the wheel.
I just put the sundowner on today and went for a 40 mile ride. Much better than the stock seat, it's only good for about 30-40 miles and then my a$$ is sore. I do sit up higher and much wider. Can't flat foot the ground any more.
