Default Need some information???

Hi everyone. Hope it's ok to post this question here. Girlfriend just got her motorcycle license and we are looking at this bike...see this link I hope.
http://saintjohn.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdL...1&ImageIndex=1

The add says it's a FXR that is not an FXR they where only made until 94 I believe. FXDL I believe right or not?

Wondering what you all think about this being her first bike and any opinions of the bike overall? I didn't think there was any better place to ask than the Dyna threads. The asking price here in Canada is $11,000.00.

Any feedback at all would be great.

Yep, that is a FXDL low rider and it is a good first bike. That's what my wife rides. I put 10 1/2 inch shocks on and it fits her great.

Good looking ride. Might be heavy for a first timer. Mileage/maintenance records are important clues toward cost.

I'm not sure about the FXR but if you can get the serial number you can decode exactley what model it is.

That's a lot of money for an 07, you can buy a new dyna for 13k. My personal opinion...
Too much bike for a first bike. Buy her something like a used honda 250 rebel and have her ride that for a year. If she drops it no great loss. (unless she gets hurt)
She needs to develope her skills and at the same time dodge all the crazy cagers.

Start small, cheep, and used.

yep, dyna low, 1st year of the 96ci and 2nd year with the 6speed. Great bike. Not sure what Canadian vs US money exchange is, but if its close to 11k in US its fair I think.
Can you check KBB or NADA in Canada?

That is a great bike, I know as I have an 07 FXDL. Bought mine used last summer for $9700. 3600 miles, an extra seat (Leparar Bare Bones), pillion pad, cover, service and owners manual. Not sure about the price as I know things are higher in Canada, and as far as a first bike, well that does depend on her skill set and comfort level. My wife has expressed her desire to learn to ride and get her own bike and I would probably get her a nice used Sportster, maybe an 883 to start out on as she definitely wants a Harley. A big twin can be a lot of bike for an inexperienced rider.

Do they offer Riders Edge classes for motorcycles in canada. ? Have her take a riding class like the motorcycle safety foundation offers and when she is done she will have an idea of her riding skill level. If she is comfortable riding she should be fine with the low rider. (as long as the fit of the bike is not too much of a stretch for her). I know a lot of people say start with something like a sportster. If she has any doubt buy her a cheap used bike that she is comfortable riding and get her a low rider when she has ridden for a year. Good luck finding her a bike and getting her on the road safely.

Kijiji puts the Dyna and the FXR in the same category, that's why it shows up like that. It's a nice bike. If it's got service records and you like it, I say go for it. There are a couple of ladies in our riding club that started on Dynas, and 5000 km in they are doing just fine.
