rear tire options for 07 Low Rider 160/70B-17?
I am in need of a new rear tire for my FXDL with the laced wheels. I am unhappy with the mileage from the stock Dunlop K591 (~8k miles). Normal driving habits, around town and a few 1-3 hour trips here and there. Not looking for increased performance other than longevity.
I am looking for the best bang for the buck, Looks like I can have the Dunlop K591 shipped to my door for $145. Are there any tire options out there that will last longer and how do they compare in price? Is this tire size an oddball, my choices seem limited? Will a different size tire fit this laced wheel, for example a 170 or 180? Any recommendation are appreciated! |
I just bought a Deuce wheel that size, to fit into my bike. It does seem to be an odd-ball, the only options of size I have discovered are 160/70 and 170/60. My preferred brand is Avon and they do their Storm in those sizes. I buy for ride quality, not mileage, but I don't think you are going to find any tyres giving better numbers than those. These are 'fashion' size tyres, not utility ones!

what about the Bridgestone Battlax BT-020, it is the OEM replacement for 2005-2008 BMW K1200LT which weighs 819lb

I have done many miles on my BMW using BT-010 and 020 tyres, they are fine. They do two versions: 160/70R17 73W and 160/70R17 79V RFD. If you do a lot of 2-up riding the reinforced 79V version would be a good choice, otherwise the 73W should be OK.
