Why is it that members are saying it's the stator? unless it's been checked out it could equally be either the regulator or wiring, the problem with guess work diagnosis, is it can cost a lot of money replacing parts on a whim. get it tested

Perhaps I should have said, "the shop called and said it's the stator..." Trust me, I wish it was something simpler (read 'cheaper')
