Tire Pressure Sensors

Rec'd a store newsletter from a parts seller I've dealt with previously. Info was about a 2-wheel tire pressure sensor system. Very nice idea, but $159.00 for the 2-tire kit. Kinda pricey! (My new brass AccuGage was $7 at Sears). Knock off about $110 of the price, I'd be real-interested.

There's only two tires. How long does it take to check?

I wouldn't rely on a pressure sensor system. I know from experience that they can malfunction. Not that big a deal on a car since you have 4 tires. Use a good tire gauge and you know it's right.

I'm not endorsing these things. Only posted info because I thought they were interesting and I'd not known they were even in existence for cycles. I have a new brass AccuGage which does the job on all 12 of my vehicles tires.

Maybe I am not on the same page, however, I can see some benefit from tire pressure sensors that warn you of a loss of tire pressure. If you are on an interstate highway traveling at 70-80 mph, and you lose 10% of your pressure, you would have time to pull over and prevent an accident. This said it is always good to check your tires before every ride. My Brother and his Wife were victims in a terrible crash just north of Pensacola, due to a sudden tire burst from a scrap yard. An object came thru the rear tire causing loss of control, blow out in nature. Wife lost her life. Sudden loss of pressure can not be prevented. But slow leak detection might save a life. Check your tires before ride, monitors allow you to check while in motion.
