Default street bob: 2007 NT rear wheel question --> 180mm?

Hi there,

This is my first post. I tried to look for the info, but could not find it.

I have a 2006 Street Bob and I'd like to put a black Night Train rear wheel on it. I can get one in mint condition very cheap, but it has a 200mm tire. The wheel is 17x6".

I don't think i can live with the tight fit inside my fender. I would like to know if the wheel fits a 180mm tire so i don't need any mods for the fender?

Thanks!
Alex

I'm pretty sure I recently saw a thread where someone put a 200mm from another bike (crossbones I think) on a dyna and it fit in the fender.

I am pretty sure the max width you can go is a 5.5 inch rear. In 17 or 18, I went with a 18 x 5.5 on mine. The 18 inch rear is going on to match the 21 inch up front. But if you want a 180 on the stock 17 x 4.5 you have the Harley dunlop and one other brand. They are a 180 made to fit on a 4.5 width rim. If you upgrade to 5.5 width rim you have more 180 rear tire choices.

Thanks for the replies. I know the 200 tire will fit, so does the 17 x 6 inch wheel, but the fit is very tight. I just want to be sure i have room left on each side of the tire inside the fender. That is why I want to go smaller than 200mm. So I want to know if I can put a 180mm tire on the 17x6 night train wheel that is designed for a 200mm. I don't want to widen my fender struts or anything. I just want to be sure that there is more than enough room left on both sides so I can take corners without the tire rubbing the fender.

thanks, I already read that thread a couple of times, but i just want more clearance between the tire and fender. I want to fit a smaller tire on the wheel... 180mm preferrably.

I found the Avon Cobra 180/55ZR18 which fits 5.5 to 6 inch wheels and it's just 184mm wide. The thing that worries me is the load index... thats 74W which is for 375kg max.

The bike is 310kg and I'm also a heavy weight at 155 kg. So I guess I need a stronger tire?

But I want to use the 2006 night train rear wheel I just bought, not the stock rim.

Oh... I thought it said you could buy one in mint condition very cheap not that you did buy one.
Wasn't trying to bust *****. Lol
I wonder if you would have to dick around with shimming the pulleys out too..

I originally went from a 160 to a 180 on my 07 FXD stock wheel, only minor wiring adjustments were needed to clear the turn signal wires.
Later I put a NT wheel with a 200 (also put a fender from a FB so there was no clearance issues)
Had to do some machine work on the spacers and pulley, pretty easy to do.
I did a pretty detailed write up on this board.
I would think a 180 would fit no problem with the fender you have.
