After cleaning up and taping the wires on my bars and turn signals, I put the wiring harness back thru the neck of the frame and tied it off "TIGHT" to the rubber plug on the other side of the neck. In the attached pic, there is not a rubber plug tie because I had just cut it off. Then I said to myself, oh, there's the vapor valve.

Well, the wires going down into the neck are hitting the vapor valve when I turn the bars and I have tried and tried to rearrange the wires to get some clearance, etc.... and I have not been able to get the wires to clear the vapor valve. I have put at least 1 wrap of electrical tape on the turn signal wires and on each of the handlebar control wires. I guess it's possible that I made things a little fatter with the electrical tape and maybe that's my problem?

I already had the parts to replace the vapor valve 90 deg elbow and the tank vent hose.

So here is my question: Can the vapor valve be removed and just have the line run directly along the frame and out of the down tube as it is now. There is a check valve in the vapor valve, so I guess it would defeat the purpose to splice it in-line horizontally? Thanks. aw

 

When i did my bars and signals, front end and new tank i had the same thing happen, i just left it that way and had no issues at all, i did replace the top rubber hose for a slightly longer one so it wasn't so tight, you could also get one of those sqaure stick on pads with a tie wrap opening and move it down with a longer rubber hose going to the tank, as for removing it not sure about that as it does help vent the tank and is a one way valve,

 

Here is a pic of the tank and vapor valve, a little hard to see but it is there, this pic was taken after i installed the wideglide front end, i have lots of wires but have since cleaned up just a little, from what i see on your bike not a big issue, just put a longer rubber hose from the valve to the tank maybe just an inch longer and you will be fine. I did not tape my wiring as the covering was still good, so maybe the electrical tape is making things thicker.

You can unplug the wires and run half down each side of the neck so you do not have such a big bundle there.
