Default Any ideas about what may be causing this problem?

I'm about to take my 2011 FXDC in for the 1K service and I wanted some advice as what might be causing a problem that seems to have developed in the last 200-300 miles.

When I am downshifting while slowing down, a significant vibration sets in at certain RPM ranges. The same vibration is not present when accelerating and upshifting. It's definitely not tire related, and the bike is otherwise smooth. It often gets bad enough to blur my vision momentarily.

Any thoughts on this? Loose motor mount maybe?

Thanks.

Too bad Dyna's don't have RPM gauge - would be nice to know where you're hitting the stift points & when this vibration's kicking in...could be mount, could be loose bolts. Do a once over on frame & make sure you're not missing anything mounting motor, pegs, bars, or tires to bike.

OK. I thought I'd just get this over with right away:

DUDE! It's the rust on the tires!

Only 1K miles on a 2011?? What's wrong with you?

Allright, carry on...

The 2012 models do have a tach unlike previous years...also you scroll through the dispay functions from a button on the handlebar now instead of the button on the console.

Do you notice the vibration when downshifting from each gear or just certain shifts?

Good question.

I believe it is primarily on the 4-3 and 3-2 downshifts.

Be sure to check the muff mounts/brackets - any loose parts there will transmit vibes through the frame. Hope you get it worked out.

First thing I would have them do, which is required at the 1K service, is to have the steering bearings adjusted. There has been a lot of new dyna's where the bearings loosened up. My dealer said it wasn't a part of the 1K service until I showed them that it was. I brought in my owners manuel and showed them. Another common problem on your bike is the front, bottom motor mounts. Some have had to have them shaved as they were rubbing against the frame and causing vibration.

It's under warranty, so make them figure it out. When you go to pick it up test ride it and if it isn't right put it right back in the shop.
