It isn't a big deal. I don't go to them for much. Most the guys I've delt with at dealerships don't really know as much about bikes as I would like. They lost my business. I'll drive the hour to Denver next time.
I know I'm digging up an old thread but I'd rather ask here than start a new topic. Does anyone know what part number for the james genuine seals fit the 49mm forks. I found this one JGI-45849-06 that is listed for 06+ dyna, but not all dynas from those years are 49mm. Any help? Thanks
Those springs dampen the rebound, extending, motion of the forks. While the long springs dampen the compression of the forks. I don't have very much experience but I'm sure its quite possible that they could break. Now if that were to happen I would venture to say that it is most likely caused by inproper installation. I'd think that you'd have to put your bike through some severe conditions to break those.
Now the reason I'm trying ro find out about the james seal kit is because I just had my forks apart for coating and I used drag performance seals when putting them back together. After 2 days of riding the seals are leaking.

Like you not an expert but couple thoughts on you problem because of all my 40+ years working on hydraulics and such and me thinking and wonder on tearing mine down this winter since I have a loud clack when they fall out (not come down) But my thought is even thought my tubes look smooth and slick, they actually have some dips and ridges were the old soft but dirty seal has worn them ever so slightly in 40K of bumps. I bet until they break in the new seals on mine will leak. Just like rebuilding a good looking master cylinder like we did years ago, unless you broke the glaze with a hone, they would leak. However there is really no way to break glaze on the tube. Also, if the fluid is correct level how bad can they leak? I had an inverted fork on a Yamaha that dumped it all out. Is yours just wetting the upper tube?
Well depending on how far I ride I'll have anywhere from oil residue above the sliders on short trips to oil running all the way down the sliders and collecting at the bottom on longer trips.
