Making Fxdxt fairing adjustment brackets.
I was able to do this for less then a new HD quarter fairing with brackets. Also I have limited tools, and metal working knowledge, which means anyone can do this. So now you don't have to pay the crazy prices for OEM take offs, or repops.
First off I got Harley's exploded view of the fairing from the dealership. I was able to sorce the part numbers I needed, and that were still available at Ronnies HD online. New castle has the best prices on these parts.

I also got a 11.5" black windshield from Cee Baileys.
Once I had all of my Harley parts and my windshield I got fasteners, spacers, and metal needed to fab up the brackets.
From Lowe's I got
2)metal 1/2x5/8x1-1/2 spacers, 2) 1/2x.328x1 nylon spacers,
2)3/8x1-1/4 stainless hex bolts, 6)10/24 lock nuts,
2) 3/8 lock nuts, 2)3/16x1/2x1/16 rubber washers,
4)3/8 stainless washers, 8)1/4 stainless washers,
1)16ga 3ft long by 1" wide metal stock.
From Fastenal I got my Hex bolts for the shield. They look closest to stock.
2)10/24x2 oxide hex bolts, 2)10/24x3/4 oxide hex bolts,
2)10/24x1/2 oxide hex bolts.

I measured out 8-1/2 inches on a piece of 3ft long by 1" wide 16ga steel stock. I cut it with a hack saw and used a file to smooth and round the ends, and bevel all of the edges.
I next held that over the lower mount cutouts on the backside and dropped my metal spacers in from the front side til they seated all the way down. I then took a pen and traced around to get my angle cut. I then cut them using a hack saw a little longer then my guide, and then used a file to get the proper length and shape check fitting quite often.
Once they were to my liking I inserted the nylon spacers into the cut metal spacers and marked my trim area. I removed them from the metal spacers and repeated that trimming process.
VERY Important!-for this lower mount these have to be exactly flush. This is the only way that the shield will stay in place.
Once I had those together I installed the Harley rubber washers, and the plastic inserts on the lower holes on the shield. I then held the backing plate in place dropped the spacers into the lower mounting holes and placed the shield on top. Then I mark the holes to be drilled for the bolts to mount in the backing plate. I used a 3/16 bit to do this.
I then mounted the shield to the lower mount. I used the 10/24x2" bolts with 1/4 rubber washer and the 10/24 flat washers and lock nuts.
First I placed tape on the shield and cut the upper holes out so that the shield wouldn't get scratched while I was mocking up.
I measured the space between the 2 fairing mounts which is 9", but cut the 16ga stock to 12" to allow 1-1/2" right angle bend for mounting holes.
Once the piece was smoothed, and the edges rounded I marked my center line, and a line 1-1/2 in from edges as my bending lines. I used a fire extinguisher to make my countour bends to match the windshield curve checking often. Once I had the right curve I used a vice to do my right angle bends at each side.
I then held the upper bracket to the shield and marked my drill holes from the front and drilled them using the 3/16 bit again.
I then hand snug mounted the upper bracket using the 10-24x1" hex bolts with the Harley plastic washers, foam spacers between shield and upper bracket(don't stick on yet wait til after paint), and 10/24 flat washers, and lock nuts.
I cut rounded smoothed and drilled these. I drilled 1 3/16 at one end and 1 1/4 hole at the other.
I then mated these together with the 10/24x1/2 hex, a 10/24 washer on each end, and a 10/24 lock nut for the upper, and the 3/8x1/4" stainless hex, a 3/8 washer on each end, and a 3/8 lock nut.
Once the mock-up was complete and all was correct, no binding, clearance on bike, ect..I painted all brackets black and mounted the fairing on the bike.
If I missed anything or you have any questions post away, or PM me.
Thanks, Lefty
They come out with a "Softail Slim" but again, if they'd just move the damn ignition switch on the Street Bob or sold an Outlaw style bike with with a good 1/4 fairing and dual disc brakes from the factory, they'd sell like hotcakes.
But back to the thread, great detailed write-up and great looking bike.

Thank you for the compliments. I love your T-Sport as well. I have taken allot of inspiration from it.

Thank you as well. I agree. HD is always about 4 years behind so I'm sure that in 2017 they will release the "Outlaw Bob".

You most definitely can. If you search for Uquackmeup, or flyscoal77 they have both mounted them on street bobs using a mix of the Fxdxt fairing and either regular windshield clamps, or homemade brackets. Both using stock headlights.
Thanks again guys, Lefty.
