Yeah I know the Street Bob one's aren't like that, but yeah I wondered if Wide Glide's would fit, and I know the old FXDX's or even the Police Defender are black, just wondered about compatability.
You may want to so a search for powder coaters in your area. My guess is you could get the stock covers powdered for $80-$100 in your choice of black finish.
I know what you mean about over doing the denim (some might say I've crossed the line already - it's kind of addicting), but you can rattle can gloss black too, just a little trickier to get perfect. I used gloss on my belt guard, highway pegs, my console, and my red rims and people think it's a pro job. to do the struts will take you 45 minutes tops and will tide you over until you get it done "right" if you don't like it. I think you will be surprised. I always intended to get my rims officially powder coated because people said the paint wouldn't last, but 2 years later they still look great and people ask where I got them powdered all the time.
