Doing the 30t front and 70 tooth rear pulleys, looking for some advice
#11
A 30T would raise your RPM's roughly 10%, cruising at 80-90 would no problem in 6th. I run a 31T on my 5 speed with 70T rear and cruise at 80-85 no problem, it runs around 3200-3300 which is no problem.
A 30T is a great way to really wake it up without losing anything and you can use the stock belt, but give it a thorough check, no point in putting one back on that is close to it's end.

You are correct, my memory was off, they make a 29T for 5 speeds and 30T for 6 speeds, not sure why, probably just market.

07bobber - check out my thread about pulley p/n that I updated today.
I was expecting alot from just the 30T front pulley mod a fewmonths back, but it wasnt real dramatic (I did at same time I did 54H cams) so there was major change but I think more from cams than pulley
This past weekend I put the 70t rear on because I messed up my 66t snapping bolts and it literally pulls like crazy
why dont you want to change rear pulley? sorry to hijack OP!

Going smaller on the front pulley puts more stress on the belt, less belt teeth engaging together, so more pressure on the ones that do. Belts seem to handle the 30 tooth fine, 28 (if you can find it) might wear the belt faster. Going larger on the rear sprocket wouldn't stress the belt at all; even leaving the front alone and going to the 70t in the back would give you real noticeable results. I haven't done this with a belt, but have with a chain a few times, and it makes quite a difference; whether belt or chain, the ratios are the same. You do know your cruising gas mileage will go down, right?

Imold, ive read about chains getting stressed by too small of sprokets but wasnt sure if the same held true for belts, makes sense since they done make them smaller then 30t.
My cruising speed is 110- 130 klms and in 5th gear so at worst i will be in 6th gear a bit more after the swap so i do think the gas millage will be affected too much. But with that said i think my gas millage has already been severly affected by how i ride off the line!!:-))
