m a machinist also, and the one thing I have learned is that as a machinist we tend to try and fix things on a path that others have been down and solved without listening. That's whay when we say HD=$100 it means HD=$200 as a machinist, this is because we will spend $100 to try and fix something that we could have just spent the $100 on that is a proven fix.

Save your money and buy the OEM setup from your dealer, clean the inside of the fender and reinstall the OEM parts. Nevermind I see that you took the advice, you must be an experienced machinist and Harley Owner, lol.

I kind of played with pulling the pins out of the plug, but they didn't seem to move and I didn't want to break something. Maybe I'll play with the old one and see if it comes apart.

Thanks, Josh.

There is a video I believe in the under $50 sticky by "Mud" that explains how to pull the wires connector apart, I am also sure someone will chime in with a link.

You will need a paper clip to do it!

I was riding my Harley the other night and realized I had no brake light or blinkers and fuel light went out. took to Harley to the dealer and they told me it was the rear brake light harness had be shreaded. 250 bucks to fix. I cant believe the almighty Harley Davidson would use glue to secure a brake wire harness. Makes me sick to my stomack that I paid this much for the Harley and they glue a wiring harness on. Even My cheap Yahama v star used metal brackets.

Mend the wires.

Clean the underside of your fender really well

Apply duct tape over the wires and on to the fender surface.

Done.

Baloney!

Do the job right. Get a new piece of the D-extrusion foam rubber wire loom. Its self adhesive is unbelievably tenacious and will not come off if installed properly. Just use a good grade of wire to replace the original harness, if you can't find a new one or decent used one.

It's not so much that it only lasted 3,000 miles... It's more that it lasted thirteen years...

Sure… use the same stuff that failed ... sounds like a good plan

I don't think people (in general) put a lot of thought into their 1st Post ... ("Replying" 1st Posts particularly)
